The Pigeon Pop Up aka Pigeon Rumors was created during a bookmaking course that I took at Tufts University as part of my studio art minor. Every part of the book was handmade and assembled, from the book cloth cover to the individual cutouts and images.
Avian advocacy and welfare is deeply important to me. As an avid bird watcher, I gained even more appreciation for them when I was a researcher at the Tufts Comparative Cognition lab, studying the astounding spatial, visual, and auditory capabilities of pigeons and starlings. Through a fun and accessible medium, I hope to dispel harmful myths surrounding pigeons, especially in large cities, and illuminate some of their endearing qualities as overlooked creatures that share our urban homes.
When I moved to New York, I started volunteering as a wildlife rehabber at the Wild Bird Fund, NYC’s only wildlife rehabilitation center, rescuing thousands of birds, including many pigeons, each month.
